The brief
A single-storey house organised around a central courtyard, designed to be lived in with the doors open most of the year.
The brief called for a single-storey home, without stairs, that would age well with its owners. The central courtyard organises circulation and filters the intense westward light of this coastline into every room.
The local stone walls provide enough thermal mass to get through summer with barely any air conditioning, with the exterior carpentry left wide open most of the year.

The reinforced concrete foundation already poured, with the structure starting to rise on top of it. It is the only moment in the whole build where anything is mixed on site.

Timeline
Six milestones between the first machine on the plot and the handover of keys, spread across the 15 months of this build.
The home is marked out on the ground and the plot is prepared to start.
Reinforced concrete slab. The only wet element in the whole build.
The timber arrives on the plot, is cut to size and dry-bolted onto the slab.
Watertight roof and continuous external insulation: the house is closed off.
Windows, ducting and pre-installations, with the home already protected from the rain.
Finishes, final inspection and the handover of keys.
